Billiards

Author: Sheard, Thomas Frederick Mason, Brit., 1866-1921
Publication date: c.1900
Depicts three unkempt men at English Billiards. The shooter, with white beard, is at right. One opponent, at center, is standing and chalking his cue. The other is seated at left. The room is dark, with shadowy patches. Sheard was chiefly a portrait and landscape painter, almost 200 of whose works were exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists. Roger Lee indicates that the title of the work is The Village Handicap
